Need for lower CCTV costs

KUALA LUMPUR: Personal safety and security is a major concern among Malaysians these days and the Government has urged local authorities and businesses to deploy CCTV (closed-circuit television) systems to help prevent crime.

The hurdle, according to Radmik Solutions Sdn Bhd managing director Khairil Adam Roslly, is that CCTV installation and maintenance costs can be prohibitive, which may result in slow or piecemeal deployment of the devices.

Some organisations, he said, may also have legacy monitoring equipment and could be baulking at replacing them with new and more efficient, but costly, systems.

Radmik has just introduced a homegrown solution to manage Internet Protocol (IP) based CCTV systems, called Radiuss. It claims the product cuts down installation costs and makes it easier to install a surveillance system.

Saiful Osman, the company's technical (development) director, said Radiuss is an IP-based open platform solution.

"It can be integrated into any monitoring system," he said, adding that Radiuss users with legacy systems could continue to use the equipment.

It also works with various related devices, including video servers, smoke detectors, GSM modems, smartcard readers, barcode readers and storage systems. "Radiuss is a bridge that connects all these different vendor products," he added.

The other advantage is that it enables users to check up on their CCTV system remotely through any PC or handheld device with a web browser and Internet connection.

Pricing starts from RM400. Go to www.radmik.com for more information.
